Managing Seasonal Temperature Swings

As the seasons change in Concord, North Carolina, the temperatures can swing drastically throughout the day. Your home may go from too warm to too cold in a few hours because of the changes outside. Manage temperature swings throughout the seasons with these helpful tips.

Use Natural Cooling Solutions

When you don’t have to rely as heavily on your home’s HVAC system during the spring and fall seasons, which is when the swings tend to be the most drastic, you may notice that your home feels more comfortable overall. Plant trees and shrubs around your home to provide shade, which can keep the sun’s harsh rays from streaming through the windows all day. You can also use fans and other ventilation options to keep air moving without necessarily running your heater or air conditioner.

Avoid Heating Up the House

Certain appliances in your home generate a lot of heat, so using them when the temperature swings upward can cause your house to feel less comfortable. Avoid using the oven for long periods of time when it’s warm outside. Taking a hot, steamy shower might feel great after a long day, but it will also put extra humidity in the air, which makes it feel hotter. The dishwasher and dryer can also produce extra heat, so try not to use these appliances when it’s already hot outside.

Set Your Thermostat

Whether you have a programmable thermostat or a smart unit, make sure to set it for a specific temperature at the start of each season. By making the change to the settings, your HVAC system can run more efficiently and you can save on monthly bills. Some smart thermostats can track the outdoor temperature and adjust accordingly, which means you may not have to do much to program it.
