Tools for Improving Your Indoor Air Quality
Contaminants like dirt, dust, biological growth, pollen, and pet dander can accumulate in your Concord, North Carolina, home and lead to poor indoor air quality. You or your family members could experience increased allergy or asthma symptoms, sore throats, eye irritation, rashes, or other issues. Fortunately, there are tools available for improving your indoor air quality.
Air Purifiers
Air purifiers use air filters like those found in most HVAC systems to remove additional pollutants from your home’s air and improve your indoor air quality. Some air purifiers can even capture viruses and bacteria. Air purifiers can also improve your system’s airflow and efficiency by keeping the air filter clean for longer. You can have a whole-home model installed in your ductwork or use a smaller portable version in one or two rooms.
Humidifiers
Your furnace can make the air inside your home drier in winter. This can lead to static electricity and cracks in wood flooring and furniture. Static can damage your electronics and cause painful shocks. A humidifier can prevent these problems and make your home more comfortable. It can also keep you from snoring and help you recover from colds faster.
Energy Recovery Ventilators
An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) removes stale air and contaminants and replaces them with fresh, filtered air. It also works like a heat pump to transfer heat from outgoing to incoming air in winter and reverses the process in summer. That way, you can avoid wasting power by opening doors or windows. You can also remove volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) like benzene, xylene, and formaldehyde that air purifiers can’t catch. Many commercial cleaners, air fresheners, and paints contain VOCs, and they can cause headaches, fatigue, and other health problems.
